Woodford Halse Garden Club

Woodford Halse Garden Club started back in 1994 and continues to meet regularly at the Memorial Hall, 7.30-9pm on the first Monday of the month from March-December.

It doesn’t matter if your garden is large, overgrown, pristine, developing, small or non-existent! You do not need to have green fingers! Anyone who enjoys finding out about plants and nature and the chance to hear about and visit interesting gardens should enjoy being part of the club.

Garden Club LogoWe are a friendly diverse group and we are always keen to welcome new people either as members or visitors for an evening. Our members enjoy the opportunity to hear from a range of speakers on plant and garden-related topics as well as subsidised visits to local gardens of interest and trips to gardens further afield, such as our coach trip to RHS Wisley in 2019. We hold an annual Christmas social event where members can reflect on the gardening year over a festive supper. We also arrange charity events in the village, such as supporting the work of Thrive (a charity which uses gardening to help change lives) with our “Cream Teas in the garden”.

2020 Programme

At our zoom committee meeting in August 2020 we made the sad but safe decision to cancel all further garden club meetings planned for 2020.

With the continued uncertainty about a second wave of covid-19 and the need to provide adequate social distancing in the Memorial Hall, it was felt that it would be better to postpone everything until 2021 and our members who joined in 2020 will not have to pay membership fees next year.

However, as a group of keen gardeners we have certainly not been resting on our laurels, as evidenced by our recent competition featuring photos of the fantastic lockdown projects undertaken in members’ gardens since March (with first prize going to Paul Harrison for creating a wonderful wildlife garden).

In the Autumn of 2020 we will continue to communicate with our members by email and although the traditional Flower and Produce Show has had to be cancelled this year, we plan a visual “Show Off your Garden Goodies” and more virtual activities in the lead up to Christmas. For anyone wishing to find out more about the club please email us.

All being well we hope to be back at the Memorial Hall for a new Garden Club Year on 1st March 2021 and we hope you will join us!

Membership costs just £10 for the year and our members are entitled to a 10% discount on purchases at Farnborough Garden Centre. Evening visitors to the club are very welcome (£3 for the evening) and refreshments are available in the Memorial Hall.

In addition, we organise a Flower and Produce Show where locals are able to enter vegetables, flowers and fruit as well as homemade produce in this friendly competition that takes place in September (you do not need to be a club member to take part in this). A list of show categories is available in the village, on our Facebook page and will also be here on the Village Signpost website in July/August.
