Medical Centre Appointments

Return to Previous System

A while ago Byfield Medical Centre announced changes to their appointments system. Today they posted the following update, reverting to the previous arrangement.

Byfield Medical Centre

“After listening to patient feedback the surgery trialled a new appointment system, whereby on the day appointments would go live at 8.00am and pre-bookable appointments for 7, 3 and 1 day in advance would go live at 11.00am.

“The overwhelming response to this new system has been negative we have therefore decided to go back to all appointments being released at 8.00am this will include pre-bookable slots for future dates.

“From 04.10.21 appointments will be face to face and not by telephone, if you prefer a telephone call please make this clear when booking. Currently patient demand is higher than it has ever been. The number of GP/Advanced Practitioner appointments we offer is 792 per week; two years ago we were offering 594.”

Staff Training 22nd September

Please also note: On Wednesday 22nd September the practice will close at 1.00pm for essential staff training, the phones will be switched to answerphone and no medication can be collected. For anything urgent please call 999 or if less urgent 111.

I would honestly like to know what the thinking is behind getting everyone to phone in at the same time to get an appointment? I’m asking because I genuinely want to understand, not as a criticism. Thank you
