Canons Ashby Is Celebrating The Summer

Having just passed the longest day with the summer solstice, the gardens at Canons Ashby are really starting to bloom with colour: at least the plants are enjoying the rain! The summer bedding has recently been planted. Just a couple more weeks and there will be a wide array of colour and fragrance on show.

There is a navy blue and yellow planting scheme to look forward to in the Top Terrace, and pinks and purples with navy blue Salvias in the Sundial Terrace. The circle beds include African marigold ‘Antigua Primrose’ edging  and Lobelia ‘Crystal Palace’.

The bedding plants this year have all been grown ‘in house’ at Canons Ashby by their gardeners and dedicated volunteers. They have even grown extra plants for the shop and honesty bench where they help to earn that little extra to support Canons Ashby.

Staff and volunteers have been working hard to get the second-hand bookshop open again. They still cannot accept donations of second-hand books at the moment, but there are plenty of tempting reads to choose from. Housed in the Brewhouse, the books sit where the beer would have been brewed for the family estate and workers to enjoy.
