Map & Modern Aerial View
For folks that found the recent post showing a map of Woodford in 1950 interesting here’s a really useful tool.
Provided by the National Library of Scotland, it allows you to compare, side by side on the screen, old maps and an up to date aerial view (or other information) of the same area.
This link connects to a map of Woodford in about 1910. alongside an aerial view of Woodford now.
Some of the other data that can be viewed includes LIDAR (Light Detection & Ranging : a laser scanning techniques) mapping which shows the lumps and bumps even through the trees. For example, on this view you can see the ridge and furrow fields to the east of the village that are evidence of the farming system used in medieval times.
