Before The Railway Went

Thanks to Joe Pitt for pointing out this map, one of the First Series 1:25000 Ordnance Survey which shows Woodford as it was in the early 1950’s when the railway still cut across the middle of the village. You can find explore the pages we have about Woodford’s history here.

    The map and photo was just before Townsend was built.A path in the top left hand corner shows a path going across the site to the Byfield Road.It’ seems to predate the Shoe Factory on the Byfield Road.Saunders shop I think is just out of view on the top left hand corner.
