Scammers Beware

The 2020 Scams Awareness fortnight starts on Monday 15 June

Northamptonshire Trading Standards is alerting residents to the danger of scams.

scam awareThis year protecting people against scams is more important than ever. The coronavirus crisis means more people are facing life changing issues – from employment and debt, to housing and health – resulting in them being in vulnerable situations. Added to this, the overall heightened uncertainty, anxiety and loneliness caused by the pandemic is making everyone more susceptible and more likely to fall victim to a scam. Empowering the public against scams is crucial during these uncertain times.

Scams are crimes that can happen to anyone and we can all take a stand to help stop them. There are actions we can all take to report them, share stories and raise awareness of scams to safeguard ourselves and others.

Please see attached promotional materials in relation to the campaign. I would be grateful if you could publicise this campaign within your organisation and share with friends, family, colleagues and the wider public to raise awareness.

If you have not already done so then now would be a good time to become a ‘Friend Against Scams’ and to encourage others to do the same at:  Friends Against Scams

If you would like a ‘No Cold Calling’ sticker to display on your front window or door of your house (please email Crime Prevention – to get yours free of charge).
