Posada In Woodford

A Hispanic Christmas Tradition

Julie Swann has written telling us of something new for this Christmas. Posada is a Hispanic tradition which is becoming increasingly popular in the UK (particularly in village communities). It celebrates the journey of Mary and Joseph to Bethlehem. The figures of Mary, Joseph and a donkey travel from house to house (or shop, or school etc) during Advent.   Each night different people host the Holy Family before passing it on to the next host.  They arrive together with a story book, album to put in photos of their adventures and hosts as well as prayers or messages and an advent candle to light.
