Library Hours Update

Pat Darby, who is taking the lead for the Parish Council on issues relating to the planned library closure, has sent through the following update:-

“It has been announced today that the County Council has had to make severe spending cuts due to financial difficulties and have made a decision to close 21 smaller libraries. This is contrary to earlier ideas to allow an option for creating community led libraries.

It seems from a notice on the facebook community page that our library will only open for a few hours with immediate effect.

I am in contact with various groups but have not had any formal feedback or any details about any kind of support. I hope that I will have more details about our library closure in the next few days. As you may be aware this decision has been delayed as a result of a the activation of Section 114 which means that spending is only allowed for statutory services .

However I have a few ideas how we can use the building as a community hub possibly retaining the archives and continuing rhyme time and children’s activities .

I will inform you about future developments as soon as possible. There will need to be discussions with parish councillors and other interested parties.”

In the mean time, the Library Opening Hours on the Opening Hours page on the web site has been updated.
