Meteorologically speaking, today is the first day of Spring (apparently!). As far as I can see from my office window with mist and drizzle obscuring my view, winter’s still very much in evidence. However, as a Welshman, I am buoyed up by the fact that it is St. David’s Day and as a lover of a full breakfast whether Welsh or English, I am excited by the fact that the Byfield Big Breakfast is upon us, for the penultimate time of this season, this coming Saturday.

All the usual suspects will be offered on a plate – bacon, sausages, best Lancashire Black Pudding (all from local butcher, Marriott’s), eggs fried or scrambled (sourced from Skylarks, Staverton and cooked to absolute perfection by award winning* chef Lynne Williams), fried bread (sourced from Tesco’s, delicately turned to golden-hued perfection by sous chef Pam Hicks) mushrooms and baked beans. PLUS a choice of fruit juices to start and tea/coffee and toast with marmalade to follow. Price still only £6 per adult and £3 per child.

* N.B. this is an accolade awarded to Lynne by several attendees at the BBB for “eggsellence in eggs”.

Even if Spring hasn’t sprung by Saturday, we hope to see you all at the Village Hall in Byfield, any time from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m. (last orders at 12.30 p.m.). PLEASE do bear in mind, we tend to get busiest between 11.30 and 1, so to avoid the queues and the longer waiting times, try to come a little before that.
