I am amazed to learn that the GCREA is still in existence! I was a member when Dave Wellington fronted it. I thought it had folded when he resigned, but clearly I was wrong! I do remember contributing an article to the magazine for Saturday 20th August 1966, just a couple of weeks before the lines demise south of Rugby.

Hi all, thanks for promoting the event. Just a quick note to say the event will actually be 13th and 14th June (to mark 50 years to the day of the closure). We are also bringing in a former Woodford Halse locomotive from the Severn Valley Railway (Ivatt 4 43106, Woodford loco 55-62) as well as renumbering a Black 5 and 8F to two of the locos that were present on the last weekend. As well as running the railways set of ‘runners’ which also finished on 14th June 1965. Also members of the Great Central Railway Enthusiasts Association (Woodford Halse) will be present giving presentations on Woodford’s railway history. It would be fantastic to have some Woodford residents there and exGCR employees too 🙂
