Rubbish News

Daventry District Council has issued two releases reminding residents of the changes to refuse collection and recycling in the District. Residents are urged to keep an eye out for their new collections calendar and information booklet for the new service, which will be landing on doormats district-wide later this week.

The day changes start from the week beginning 4 June 2018, when households will receive the new 123+ waste and recycling collection service:

  • 1 weekly food waste collection
  • 2 weekly mixed recycling collection in a new blue-lidded wheelie bin
  • 3 weekly general waste black bin collection

+ Plus an optional two-weekly garden waste service for an annual fee of £35 a year.

From 4 June collections will take place from Monday to Friday and there will be no Saturday collections. The day changes are required to ensure the new service works as effectively as possible and collection rounds are balanced for crews. If you want to check if your day has changed you can do so here: Refuse Collection Day Checker. It looks like Monday will be Woodford’s day.

Here is a downloadable recycling calendar.

You will also be able to check your collection days and set reminder alerts by downloading the free Daventry District Council app, which will be available from Google Play and the Apple Store from 2 June.

Don’t forget, if you want garden waste collection you will need to sign up (and pay) for the service.

From 4 June 2018, households wishing to continue having their garden waste collected fortnightly will need to sign up for the service and pay an annual fee of £35.

For the majority of homes district-wide, this week’s brown bin collections (week beginning 21 May) will be the last ones before the new opt-in garden waste service begins. Brown bins will not be emptied after 4 June from homes that have not registered for the new service.

Residents can sign-up for the service at or by calling 0345 218 5215.

All homes that sign up for £35 a year will receive a tamper-proof registration sticker in time for the start of the new fortnightly service. Garden waste bins that do not display the sticker after June 4 will not be emptied. The annual charge of £35 per bin does not change if you join after this date.

The information regarding the new refuse collections is an absolute shambles. A letter with all the information, dates, do’s and don’t along with how to pay for garden refuse collections should have been sent out to every household – we don’t get much for our £2000+ council tax sure it could cover a letter.

As I understand it we should all be receiving a booklet this week – see first paragraph in the news item. Hopefully that will make all clear!
