Chance for young people to become police cadets

Northamptonshire Police Community Connect have let us know that three open evenings are being held for young people to find out more about becoming a police cadet.

Northamptonshire PoliceThe open evenings will be held in Wellingborough, Daventry and Towcester with staff on hand to offer information about the schemes.

Police cadets meet one night a week to learn about the police service and develop practical skills. The new cadets will also work with local police and become part of their local safer community team, helping out at events and offering crime prevention advice.

LiCadetszzi Betts, cadets and volunteers team leader, said: “This is an exciting time for the cadets’ scheme as we expand in to new towns. We hope as many young people as possible are able to come along to the open evenings to find out more.”

She added: “The cadet scheme is an excellent way for young people to gain experience of policing, develop personal skills, build their confidence, make new friends, understand social responsibility and make a difference in the community.”

Details of the events are:

Tuesday 21 January, 7pm, Wellingborough Police Station, Midland Road, Wellingborough.

Thursday 23 January, 6pm, Daventry Police Station, New Street, Daventry.

Friday 24 January, 6pm, Towcester Leisure Centre, Springfields, Towcester.

The closing date for applications is Friday, 31 January 2014. Thirty places will be available on each scheme and applicants must be aged 16 when the scheme starts in Daventry and Towcester in May 2014. The Wellingborough scheme is also open to 15-year-olds as well as 16-year-olds.
